Resumo
Este trabalho apresenta características econômicas básicas do sistema colonial mantido entre Portugal e Brasil até à chegada do príncipe regente D. João a Salvador e posterior instalação da Corte portuguesa no Rio de Janeiro. Ressalta aspectos qualitativos e quantitativos das correntes comerciais resultantes do monopólio colonial, bem como o funcionamento rotineiro dos canais de distribuição voltados para a exportação de produtos tradicionais e de interesse da economia metropolitiana, o que também gerou restrições às primeiras manifestações do desenvolviemento manufatureiro do Brasil. As medidas econômicas decretadas pelo Príncipe D. João, principalmente a abertura dos portos do Brasil às nações amigas e a liberdade para a criação de fábrica de quaisquer ramos, representaram um choque inovador que estimulou a economia brasileira, e tornou impossível o regresso à situação de dependência vigente antes de 28 de janeiro de 1808.

Abstract
This paper presents the mains economics lines about the colonial system that linked Brasil to Portugal till the arrival of portuguese court in Brasil , that set up the government at Rio de Janeiro City. It stresses the figures and the quantative aspects of the commercial flew of the colonial economy and, at the same time, analyzaes the usual characteristicas of the channels of distribuition of exporting goods, most of them under the crown interests. This situation have created restrictions to the firsts steps of Brazillian industrial developent, that only will change under the new economy policies and measures established by the prince D. João, specially the "seaports freedon act" to the friendly countries and the freedon to set up new industries, without restrictions. This frame represented the beginning of a Brazillian economy new and positive page, becoming impossible get back to the old situation of dependence that existed till January, 28, 1808.
