Resumo
O artigo analisa aspectos da vida e da atuação de José Cardiel, missionário jesuíta que atuou na América Espanhola entre 1729 e 1768. Nosso objetivo neste trabalho é o de tentar compreender a forma pela qual este personagem, destacado na história do período que antecedeu a expulsão da Companhia das Américas, viveu esta experiência, e que marcas imprimiu a ela. Não estamos, portanto, buscando acrescentar dados aos fatores estruturais ou conjunturais da crise que culmina com a Pragmática Sanção promulgada em 27 de fevereiro de 1767 pelo rei Carlos III, mas sim entendê-la seguindo o fio particular de uma vida.

Abstract
This article analyzes José Cardiel’s aspects of life and actuation, Jesuit missionary that actuated in the Spanish America between 1729 and 1768. Our aim in this study is to try to understand the way by which this distinguished character in history in the period that preceded the expelling of the Company from the Americas lived this experience and which marks left on it. However, we are not seeking to add data to structural or conjunctural factors of the crisis that culminates with the Pragmatic Penalty published on February 27th, 1767, by King Charles III, but understand it by following the private thread of a life.
