Resumo
O estudo comparado entre capuchinhos e jesuítas revela-nos o papel político destes religiosos na consolidação das explorações das novas terras do continente americano, particularmente no Brasil e na Nouvelle-France, para o poder estatal europeu. Na condição de factotis, os registros históricos que nos foram legados pelos capuchinhos e jesuítas permitem-nos obter as primeiras formas de representações culturais constituídas nas Américas, além das práticas que garantiriam o povoamento das conquistas. Este trabalho considerou, ainda, dois fenômenos históricos que se desenrolavam durante o período estudado: o estabelecimento da Inquisição em Portugal e a ofensiva católica sob os ditames do Concílio de Trento, pois não só indicavam a tênue separação entre os poderes temporal e divino durante a Reforma e Contrarreforma no processo da formação do Estado moderno na Europa como também refletiram as práticas dos precessos de colonização no Novo Mundo.

Abstract
The study comparing the Capuchins and the Jesuits reveal the political role of both religious orders in the consolidation of the exploitation of the new lands of the American continent, parti- cularly Brazil and Nouvelle-France, for the European state power. In the shape of factotis, the historic records inherited from the Capuchins and the Jesuits, allow us to obtain the first means of cultural representation formed in the Americas, as well as the practices that stemmed to the settlements of the conquered territories. This essay has also considered two historical phenomenal occurred during the studied period: the establishment of the Inquisition in Portugal and the catholic offensive against the Trento Council, not only because indicated the thin line between Earth and Divine powers during the Reform and Counter-Reform in the building of the modern State in Europe, but also because reflected the process of colonizing the new world.
