Resumo
O objetivo do artigo consiste em mostrar como o trabalho do naturalista Manuel Ferreira da Câmara não pode ser dissociado do seu papel enquanto cortesão, uma vez que a vida na corte moldaria a sua vida quotidiana e a sua atividade científica. E, na corte, espaço social onde as regras eram determinadas pelo príncipe, a história natural desfrutava de amplo reconhecimento, uma vez que teria um papel central nos projetos econômicos, políticos e culturais da segunda metade do século XVIII no Império Português. Como Intendente dos Diamantes da região de Serro do Frio, sob a proteção do ministro D. Rodrigo de Sousa Coutinho, Câmara acumulou serviços e honras com a inspeção das minas e matas, a construção de fábricas de ferro como a Real Fábrica de Gaspar Soares ou do Pilar, a capacidade de influir para a publicação de um conjunto de leis relativas à política mineral do Brasil, entre outras atividades. Seus serviços renderam-lhe diversos títulos honoríficos.

Abstract
The aim of the paper is to show how the work of the naturalist Manuel Ferreira da Câmara can not be dissociated from its role as a courtier, as the court life would shape their daily lives and scientific activity. And in court, the social space where the rules were determined by the Prince, the Natural History enjoyed widespread recognition, since it would have a central role in economic projects, political and cultural contexts of the second half of the eighteenth century the Portuguese Empire. As Mayor of Diamonds in the region of Serro do Frio, under the auspices of Minister D. Rodrigo de Sousa Coutinho, Câmara accumulated honors with service with the inspection of mines and forests, the construction of iron factories as the Real Fábrica de Gaspar Soares and the Pillar, and the ability to influence for the publication of a set of laws relating to common Mineral of Brazil, among other activities. His service earned him several honors.
