Resumo
Na grave conjuntura da década de 1640, D. João IV enfrentou diversos desafios para se manter no trono. No ultramar, os holandeses conquistaram possessões lusas no Oriente, na América e na África. Além dos conflitos contra os batavos, havia guerras contra castelhanos e dificuldade extrema em se obter apoio diplomático. Nesse contexto crítico, muitas idéias foram discutidas nos Conselhos da Coroa, a fim de se delinear uma gestão para o Atlântico sul. Debatia-se a invasão de Buenos Aires; a reconquista de Angola; e a compra, a retomada ou a entrega do Nordeste. Assim, este artigo procura analisar a gestão da Guerra no Portugal restaurado, sem perder de vista que tal gestão era conformada pelo ideário da segunda escolástica.

Abstract
In the serious situation of the 1640s, D. João IV has faced several challenges to stay on the throne. Overseas, the dutch conquered portuguese possessions in the East, America and Africa. Besides the conflict against the dutch, there were wars against Castile and extreme difficulty in obtaining diplomatic support. In this critical context, many ideas were discussed in the Councils of the Crown, in order to outline a management for the South Atlantic. Struggled invasion of Buenos Aires, the reconquest of Angola, and the purchase, return or delivery of the Northeast. Therefore, this article analyzes the management of the War in Portugal restored, without losing sight of that management was conformed by the ideals of the second scholasticism.
