Resumo
O Instituto de Coimbra foi uma academia científica e literária portuguesa fundada em 1852 e que permaneceu em atividade até ao final do século XX. Analisamos no presente artigo as relações que estabeleceu com o Brasil e apresentamos a lista de sócios brasileiros, honorários e correspondentes, que do Instituto fizeram parte ao longo da sua história. Colocando em paralelo o contexto diplomático entre Portugal e Brasil, recuperamos encontros culturais, ligações com academias brasileiras e manifestações particulares onde se evidencia a vontade de cooperação entre sócios no sentido de aproximar as duas nações.

Abstract
The Coimbra Institute was a Portuguese scientific and literary academy founded in 1852 that remained active through the end of the XX century. This article will analyze the relations that it established with Brazil. We present a list of Brazilian members, honorary or correspondent, who were part of the Institute over its long history. In parallel with the diplomatic context between Portugal and Brazil, we will recuperate cultural meetings, connections with Brazilian academies and private manifestations showing the members’ evident will towards mutual cooperation aiming at bringing together both nations.
