Resumo
Neste artigo, trata-se de evidenciar como, a rigor, historicamente falando, política e teatro são indissociáveis, faces de uma mesma moeda que se confundem. Ele se desdobra, em três partes distintas e inter-relacionadas. Inicia-se com considerações sobre a relação entre teatro e política em Maquiavel, a partir do qual é salientada a importância do parecer ser como algo inerente à esfera política. A seguir, concentra-se na análise da concepção de teatro político desenvolvida por E. P. Thompson, pondo em destaque o teatro dos poderosos e o teatro dos pobres em meio às lutas travadas em torno do controle de classe. E, por fim, fechando a cena, vale-se da contribuição desses autores e de outros mais para pensar a teatralização da história política brasileira durante o primeiro governo Getúlio Vargas.

Abstract
This article aims at proving that, historically speaking, politics and theater cannot be dissociated, as they are faces of the same coin. It unfolds into three distinct, interrelated, parts. First, it analyzes the relationship between theater and politics in Machiavelli, focusing on the importance of appearance as an inherent feature in the political sphere. It goes on by concentrating on the analysis of the conception of political drama as developed by E. P. Thompson with special emphasis on the drama of the powerful and that of the underprivileged amidst the struggles over class control. Finally, lowering the curtain and based on the contribution of those authors and many others,it reflects on the dramatization of the Brazilian political history during Getulio Vargas’ first administration.
