Resumo
Este artigo apresenta um estudo sobre a atuação de fotógrafos na cidade de Diamantina, Minas Gerais, entre os anos de 1862 e de 1900 e almeja trazer novos aportes aos estudos sobre a história da fotografia no Brasil. De modo específico, a atividade fotográfica é tratada e desenvolvida por meio da abordagem da itinerância, que é a marca principal da expansão da fotografia no período. A partir da pesquisa realizada nos anúncios publicados nos periódicos, visamos demonstrar a importância que os fotógrafos tiveram na diminuição de fronteiras e na representação da sociedade diante do despertar de uma modernidade emergente, iniciando, portanto, a construção de individualidades e a perpetuação da cultura fotográfica na terra dos diamantes.

Abstract
This article presents a study on the role of photographers in the city of Diamantina, Minas Gerais, from 1862 through 1900. It aims to bring a new contribution to the studies on the history of photography in Brazil. Specifically, the photographic activity is treated and developed here through a roaming approach; roaming is a mark of expansion of photography in that period. From the research carried out in newspaper advertisements, we intend to demonstrate the importance of photographers both in reducing borders and in the representation of a society in view of an emerging modernity. Therefore, the photographers’ activities contributed to the building of individualities and the perpetuation of photographic culture in the land of diamonds.
