Resumo
A pesquisa histórica e arquivista, desenvolvida nos arquivos do IHGB, propõe interpretar o legado cultural da Viscondessa de Cavalcanti, considerado de “alta cultura”, a partir das novas perspectivas de análise da história política e cultural. O recorte em tela enfatiza a presença de Amélia Machado de Coelho e Castro, a “mulher de letras”, no cenário político e cultural, nacional e internacional – Rio de Janeiro e Paris – nas décadas finais do oitocentos imperiais e nas iniciais da República, e destaca, em seu vasto legado artístico e cultural, o seu interesse pelos estudos históricos brasileiros e a sua contribuição à pesquisa da numismática.

Abstract
The historical and archival research developed in the archives of the IHGB proposes to interpret the Viscountess of Cavalcanti’s cultural legacy, considered of “high culture”, from the new perspectives of analysis of political and cultural history. The approach emphasizes the presence of the “woman of letters” Amélia Machado de Coelho e Castro in the political, cultural, national and international scenery – Rio de Janeiro and Paris – in the final decades of the eighteenth imperial century and in the early years of the Republic, and highlights, in her vast artistic and cultural legacy, her interest in Brazilian historical studies and her contribution to the research of numismatics.
