Abstract
This paper aims to emphasize the close connection between King D. João VI and the Luso-Brazilian United Kingdom he created, and at the same time aims to highlight the political reach of the strategy he adopted, both for the survival of the old Portuguese Kingdom and the defense of the consolidation of the new United Kingdom based in Brazil. Through some new reflections and under another perspective of analysis – about the actions of the king-, a different interpretation is constructed, unlike the traditional version that traces the image of a “weak and runaway” king. A version that still persists in school textbooks and in the minds of the population in general. Therefore, it is a new version of the historical facts and of the consequential decisions taken by the king, understanding these factors within a scenario of dynamism of the relations established in the general plan of government policy and administration. In addition, it highlights the privileged place enjoyed by Brazil, from 1808, and extended in the context of the United Kingdom, as well as the implementation of scientific-cultural research established from the dynastic union with the Habsburgs, as determinants and due factors of the Johannine politics.
Key Words: D. João VI; Political strategy; Luso-Brazilian United Kingdom , Dynastic union; Scientific-cultural relations.
