Resumo
O título apropria uma afirmativa do Governador Gomes Freire de Andrada ao avaliar, junto ao Rei, a disputa entre interesses de grupos vinculados às Freguesias do Pilar e da Estrela, ambos em caminhos que levavam às minas no início do século XVIII. Nesta centúria, o interior da Capitania do Rio de Janeiro foi desbravado por vias de comunicação que interligavam a capitania fluminense às recém-descobertas áreas mineradoras. Nelas, se constituíram localidades integradas aos novos circuitos econômicos. A constituição do espaço, resultante do complexo das relações sociais, deu vida a diversas localidades que, mesmo quando não desfrutavam de status administrativos específicos, como por exemplo, Vilas, tiveram papel relevante no processo de conquista e de colonização. Os conflitos são conhecidos, assim como a documentação utilizada, mas se pretende pensar o processo no contexto da política metropolitana de controle e de extração sobre a colônia ao qual se juntava um amplo conjunto de interesses dos diversos grupos sociais e de suas respectivas atividades econômicas em permanente disputa, produzindo uma dinâmica na qual interagiam as resistências ao controle colonial e, ao mesmo tempo, o seu reforço como possível instrumento de apoio a determinados interesses privados. As localidades, reconhecidas como Freguesias na última década do século XVII, estavam “às margens do poder visível”, pois, mesmo sem status administrativo, interagiam por seus sujeitos num processo dialético na regência da governação da conquista.

Abstract
The title appropriates an affirmative of the Governor Gomes Freire de Andrada as he evaluate with the King the dispute between interests of groups linked to the Pilar and Estrela ‘Freguesias’, both on paths leading to mines in the early Eighteenth Century. In this period, the interior of the Captaincy of Rio de Janeiro was explored by ways of communication that interconnected the ‘fluminense’ captaincy to the newly discovered mining areas, in which were constituted localities integrated to the new economic circuits. The constitution of space, resulting of the complex of social relations, gave life to several localities which, even when not contemplating specific administrative statuses, as for example, Vilas, played a relevant role in the process of conquest and colonization. The conflicts are known, as well as the documentation used, but this work intends to reason the process in the context of the metropolitan policy of control and extraction on the colony to which a broad set of interests of the several social groups and their respective economic activities in permanent dispute gathered, producing a situation in which interact the resistances to colonial control and its reinforcements as a possible instrument to support certain private interests as well. The localities, acknowledged as ‘Freguesias’ in the last decade of the seventeenth century, were “on the margins of the visible power”, for even without administrative status, they interacted by the means of their subjects in a dialectical process in regency of the governance of the conquest.
