Abstract
In addition to the known causes that influenced the revolutionaries of Pernambuco in 1817, namely the independence of the United States of America and the French Revolution, we believe it is worth considering another major influence which is perhaps as coherent as the French and the American one. By that, we mean the revolutionary process carried out in South America by Simon Bolívar, the Liberator of Spanish America. Such influence was felt not only because of the objectives and the temporal simultaneity of the events that took place in the first quarter of the 19th century, but also because of the ideological and philosophical ties that bound the revolutionaries together and the direct participation of the people of Pernambuco in those events in the Andes. Among them was Abreu e Lima, known as “Bolívar ́s General”.
